Our team had the pleasure of jointly organizing the "Opportunities in Europe for Eastern Ontario" seminar with the Consulates General of Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, and the Polish Investment and Trade Agency. Held at Queen's University and tailored for innovative and growing companies in Eastern Ontario, the event highlighted the unique advantages of investing and doing business in these European countries and their thriving trade relationships with Canada, facilitated by CETA. ▪️ Austria: Excelling in mechanical engineering, chemicals, and vehicle manufacturing, with bilateral trade reaching $3.38 billion CAD in 2023. ▪️ Czech Republic: Known for its high-tech engineering, electronics, and automotive industries, with bilateral trade reaching $1.23 billion CAD in 2023. ▪️ Hungary: Leading in automotive and electronics industries, with bilateral trade reaching $1.36 billion CAD in 2023. ▪️ Poland: A key manufacturing hub with strong machinery and technology sectors and bilateral trade, totalling $4.145 billion CAD in 2023. Had a productive roundtable discussion with local centres on strengthening our small business ecosystem and unleashing the entrepreneurial spirit that drives economic growth and prosperity across the province. Our government is proud to invest an additional $6.8M this year to help deliver programs for small businesses like Starter Company Plus and Summer Company. Dr. David Detomasi presented a global economic forecast, drawing on his expertise in globalization and geopolitics to provide a broader view of international economic dynamics. Charles Zhang shared a national economic forecast, offering key insights into Canada’s economic outlook based on his finance background and academic expertise. Dr. Tracy Jenkin discussed the future of work and AI’s role in reshaping industries, sparking valuable conversations on the impact of emerging technologies. Justine Janssen introduced an innovative succession model for transitioning businesses to employee ownership, providing solutions for sustainable, locally-rooted businesses.
